investigation into abuse of power by superior offi cers Sgt Alfredo Lopez 43 a 14 year veteran resigned riday and Officer John Quitoriano 35 an eight year veteran resigned Wednesday Commissioner Spike Helmick said Both men cited personal rea sons in their resignation letters Helmick said Lopez and Quitoriano came under review in an investigation of improper behavior by Capt Eli Molina who had been a com mander in Bakersfield and for mer Central Division Chief Gary Dominguez Molina is accused of using on duty officers to direct traffic dur ing a wedding at his home among other allegations and faces possible criminal charges CHP officials said Details of alle gations against Dominguez have not be released Lopez and Quitoriano had issues that might be criminal but completion of the investigation is still weeks away Helmick said Attorney describes abuse by coaches SANTA BARBARA An attorney has detailed six alleged incidents of verbal and physical abuse by two suspended coach es against five Santa Barbara High School football players In a letter to school district Superintendent Deborah lores attorney James Herman cited accounts by several athletes who alleged players are routinely at degraded harassed and embarrassed by head coach Craig Moropoulos and Athletic Director Lito Herman prepared the letter for families complaining of the conduct The letter also alleged Moropoulos imitated and mocked a student with a learning disability in front of the football team death triggers training suspension SAN DIEGO One of the two Marine Corps train ing centers imposed a three day suspension of strenuous physical activity for 4600 recruits Mon day following the sudden death of an 18 year old private who may have succumbed to a poten tially lethal bacteria An outbreak panel said the Second Amendment was not adopted order to afford rights to individuals with respect to private gun ownership or pos with the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals that said individuals had a Cemetery Ronald ernandes Ron passed away in Sacramento on Wednesday morning Dec 11 2002 at the age of 64 after a sud den illness stemming from cancer Ron was bom in Sacramento on May 21 1938 a fourth generation Sacramentan the descendant of Azorean settlers His maternal grandparents were John and Nancy Silva who farmed the Pock Ronald et area and his ernandes paternal great grandfather was John Soto who was drawn to Cal ifornia during the gold rush and with wife rances were early set tlers of the reeport Clarksburg area Ron grew up in Sacramento and graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1956 where he excelled in student life particularly athletics He attended Stanford University where he was a standout football player and receivedhisbachelorofarts degree in 1961 He made lifelong friends at both Christian Brothers and Stan ford as shown by the many visitors who came to visit and reminisce with him in the last several weeks of his life Ron worked for more than 40 years in the produce industry with more than 20 years of that time at Blue Anchor Inc where he man aged fiie export sales department He established his own brokerage business in 1986 He traveled exten sively throughout North America Europe Asia and South America for his work and enjoyed it immensely He made many friends throughout California and all over the world He moved with his fam ily from Sacramento to Loomis in 1972 There he helped co found the Loomis Youth Soccer League and coached many youth teams including his He rel ished his time at his home in Loomis and loved to host parties for friends and family He moved to Visalia four years ago to finish his career and planned on retiring next year Ron was a devoted father and a wonderful friend to many He was a great storyteller and had a marvelous sense of humor which he exhibited to the end He lived with multiple sclerosis for more than 25 years with stoicism in the face of great discomfort and pain living every day to its fullest He touched the lives of many with his courage generous spirit and love of life family and friends He is survived by his son Antone ernandes of Los Angeles daugh ter Paula Lanman her husband Charles Lanman and granddaugh ter Elise Lanman of El Dorado Hills daughter Marianne ernan des and her partner Angeline Lee of Seattle sister Eleanor Muller of Carmichael nephews Randy Muller Larry Muller and Monty Muller aunts Dolores Silva Anna Azevedo and Emily Silva Souza and her husband Joe Souza uncle King Silva cousin and lifelong friend Shirley Greco and many other cousins too numerous
