15 Bowling (United Press International) New York's "fabulous old men" are Eastern Division champions of the National Football League for the second straight season and they're itching for another shot at the Green Bay Packers because they're confident the outcome will be different than it was last year. The Giants made the NFL playoff for the 13th time yesterday by edging the Chicago Bears, 26-24, in a game highlighted by fisticuffs, four field goals by Don Chandler and brilliant defensive play by the Giants. The Packers meanwhile clung to their one-game lead over Detroit in the Western Division by trouncing Los mates and former University of Minnesota comrades for appearing in his 158th con- secutive NFL game, tying a i record. In the American League, only the Boston Patriots stand in the way of an all- Texas playoff. Dallas backed into the Western Division title, dropping a 23-14 nod to Buffalo but clinching their divisional honors when Houston whipped Denver, 34-17.

That enabled Houston to stay ahead of Boston in the Eastern Division. Two early touchdowns by newly acquired Gerry Mc-Dougall helped San Diego snap a six-game losing streak by beating winless Oakland, 31-21. Angeles, 41-10, while the Lions kept pace by rallying for a 21-14 nod over Baltimore. Paul Hornung returned to the Packer lineup and tallied the champions' first touchdown, and Jim Taylor ran his league-leading point total to 102 with two touchdowns. Packer quarterback Bart Starr completed 15 of 20 passes for 260 yards.

Ram rookie Roman Gabriel completed 18 of 26 for 139 yards and scrambled away from Packer rushers several times to gain yardage. John Brodie threw four touchdown passes to lead San Francisco to a 35-12 romp over Minnesota.
