Marshall, who will retire in August after 32 years with the department, is assigned to the services division.

As a sworn officer, Marshall has worked in several divisions with the Police Department. I thought it was a great honor, Marshall said. Youre voted on by all the members of the department." Marshall said she was surprised at the honor, but she said she couldnt think of a better way to end a 32-year career. Tulare Police Chief Roger Hill said Marshall has been a positive force with the department. Her 32 years of service have been untarnished, Hill said.

She has always been a good role model for all of us. Marshall started with the department in 1957 after graduating from College of the Sequoias with an associate of arts degree. Hill said at that time, all employees of the Tulare Police Department had to meet the requirements of Police Officers Service Training. Marshall began her career as a dispatcher and quickly moved into the position of administrative assistant to the chief of police. From there, she was assigned to the investigations unit in the mid-1970s A-R photo Alice Marshall Officer of the Year and acted as the school resource officer.

She worked the streets as a juvenile investigator for four years before being trained on the department's computer system. She became our computer expert, Hill said. Now Marshall is responsible for data processing, crime analysis and statistics, a position she has held for six years. Nobody will be able to replace her, Hill said. Shes an inspiration to us all.
