The matter is one that eannot he disregarded, as the need for more room, especially for the vaults, is imperative. Whatever is done in the way of pio-viding more room will be in the shape of adding to the present building, and not of building a septa rate hall. Architect Weaver will he asked to draw a st-of plans, giving as much room in added wings to each side as passible without destining the symmetry of' the building, and showing the amount of room in each office, and vault.

Whether any positive definite action will he taken in regard to the addition at this session of the Hoard is undecided. SHORT IN HIS ACCOUNTS Former City Marshal Ballard of Porterville, May Have to Explain. According to the Messenger, 8. C. Ballard, formerly city marshal of Porterville, may have to face a charge of fraud, a shortage in bis accounts having been discovered by J.

Frank Wright, who has just filed a report after exporting the citys accounts. According to Mr. Wright, there is a disciepancy in the accounts of $325.68. When this state of affairs was reported to tbe Porterville City Council Monday night, there was much indignation expressed, nml all were in favor of having the matter thoroughly investigated. It may lie, however, that Ballards bondsmen will he held accountable for the shortage, and the prosecution ofjthe ex-marshal left to them.

The only trouble will la to find which set of bondsmen are lespoiisible, ns three diffeient bonds were filed by Ballard dining bis term of office, and tbe date in which the shortage occur! cd will have to be determined. The man who was killed near Tipiton some time during Sunday night, by a train, is suppiosed to have been W. J. Cooper, as a receipt hook was found on his pierson giving that name and showing that he belonged to the Modern Brotherhood of America. He was found lying near the track in a pool of blood with his head crushed and one foot almost severed from his body. A telegram was sent to Kansas City, Missouri, to the secretary of the lodge to which he belonged, and shortly before noon today a message was received from Joe Cooper, asking that the remains be held until instructions were received. The remains were brought up from Tipton Monday evening and are at the undertaking piarlors of T. C. Car-ruthers.
