A musical' critic of Atchison comply ns because all of the songs are written about roses and maidens and love and trysUng places and sunsets, and never about men. I wonder if hes forgotten the old song that begins: Father, dear father, come home with me now, in which the old man gets drunk in the first verse.

Bob Burdette says nothing pleases his more than to watch the sun climb up over the eastern rim of the world, when it is time for day to begin, and see it sink slowly over the round of the earth when the full-houred day done. One door east of Visalia House. a As a prosperity year, 1899 beat 1898, and 1900 is starting in at a gait which promises to distance its predecessor. The man who writes the history of the city of Visalia will have te tel coming generations that it was the Delta that numbered the city, and thus brought order out of chaos. If a vote of the Democrats of Visalia were to be taken regarding who should be editor of the Evening Times, Ben Maddox wouldnt get an average of one out of every fifty votes cast. The eleven men who served in the Parker case are entitled to great credit for their noble efforts to save the county the expense of another trial.

The majority do not always rule at least not in the jury room. Mr. M. Cohen, who has been employed by the Delta to number the city and get up a directory, is meeting unexpected success. The peop.e of Visalia, almost without exception realize the value of an up-to-date directory.

At the rate in which advertisements are coming in and copies of the book are being sold, we shall be enabled to get out a much larger and handsomer volume than we at first contemplated. The relations of the Delta with the people of Visalia have satisfied us beyonjggeradventure that they always know a good thing when they find it. The editor of the Evening Times is mad again. This time the cause of his indignation is the action taken by Congressman Needham in appointing a postmaster for Visalia. For a long time the Democratic editor has been saying nice things in print about Mr.

Needham. During the Board of Trade excursion to the mountains last summer, the Democratic editor hobnobbed With the Congressman, and, in fact, slobbered all over him in an attempt to get into his good graces. On the strength of his friendship for the Congressman, the Democratic editor naturally supposed Mr. Needham would listen to suggestions from him regarding who should be postmaster of Visalia. But Mr.

Needham isnt that kind of a man. Now that the Democratic editor has discovered that he has no influence with the Congressman, of course he is disappointed. And thats whats the matter with Maddox. G. A.

Vsalia. In nine cases out of ten whiskey straight will make a man turn out crooked. Henry Hauser was driving with his girl near Lebanon, Ohio, the other day when his buggy was struck by a railroad train. The horse was killed and the buggy destroyed, but the man and woman escaped any injury. They were thrown thirty feet into the air and alighted in the top of a high and bushy tree.

They were not in a perilous position, but it was impossible for them to reach terra firma. They were alone, Hauser proposed to the girl and she accepted him. Then they shouted to passersby to rescue them and all was well. The acme of the prevailing Republican prosperity will have been reached when any church will be able to report a. surplus in its treasury.

There are more jobs hunting men now than for many years a condition of things against which the Democrats voted and worked in 1896. A GOOD SHOWING.
