COUNTY OFFICERS CONFER ON QUESTION OF REFUND (Continued from Page One) time to which the ruling is amenable. Some Suggestions Representing Porterville in the hearing before the board members today, with Supervisor Charles H. J. Hausch presiding in the absence of Chairman J. K.

Macomher, was City Attorney Guy Knupp. Dinubas city attorney, Joe E. Greene, appeared for the alto city. Members of the board were somewhat divided In opinion as to how the matter should be adjusted. Attorney Knupp presented a verbal compromise method of settlement whereunder each city might pay into the county treasury the amount of fines collected in criminal cases by the citv recorders since the formal demand was made for refund, last January; since there had been paid all expenses in such court matters prior to that time; and it was contended that such expenses practically consume all of the fine sums paid.

Supervisor R. C. Sturgeon favored splitting the amounts, collected during the time covered in the claims 50-50, as between the towns and the county. Supervisor Pfrimmer held out for collection of ail sums due the county. Supervisors Hausch suggest taking the matter under advisement, with the full board in attendance.

Seek to Compromise The district attorney, Leroy McCormick, and Deputy Frank Lamber-son represented thb county in todays hearing. During the noon hour the parties to the conference were gathered around the desk of the chairman, endeavoring, apparently, to reach some kind of a compromise plan for settling the matter, since each was equipped with a pencil and was figuring like luncheon depended upon the success of the effort.
